Site visit: Friday, August 28, 2026. Last Friday the Chamber was down at Rio Tinto BC Works in Kitimat for a site tour, and we were in good company.

July 17. This week, our Executive Director Suresh Choudhary and Director Adam Tang had the privilege of touring Seabridge Gold Inc. KSM Project site — one of the world’s largest undeveloped gold-copper projects, right here in Northwest BC.

Chamber site tour: Rio Tinto BC Works, Kitimat
Site visit: Friday, August 28, 2026
Last Friday the Chamber was down at Rio Tinto BC Works in Kitimat for a site tour, and we were in good company.
Joining us were Kitsumkalum Chief Troy Sam, Councillors Anona Budden and Cynthia Bohn, and Clint Budden of the Kitsumkalum Economic Development Board, along with City of Terrace Councillors Sarah Zimmerman and Inder Dhillon. Chamber President Brian Williams and Executive Director Suresh Choudhary rounded out the group.
The morning started with a safety induction and a presentation from Rio Tinto’s Communities and Social Performance team. From there we went into the casting house, where the metal is prepared for shipping to customer specifications, then took a driving tour of the smelter site before wrapping up with questions.
An operation that size is worth seeing up close. Seeing it alongside Kitsumkalum and City leadership on the same morning is what made the day worth the drive.

🚁 A firsthand look at one of the North’s most significant projects

This week, our Executive Director Suresh Choudhary and Director Adam Tang had the privilege of touring Seabridge Gold Inc. KSM Project site — one of the world’s largest undeveloped gold-copper projects, right here in Northwest BC.
A huge thank-you to our guide, Erin Boyle, Environment & Permitting Manager, whose more than a decade of experience on the project made for an incredibly informative day — and to Megan Bacon and the entire Seabridge team for organizing everything down to the last detail.
What stood out most: the professionalism and genuine care this team brings to every part of the operation — their staff, camp workers, and the surrounding nature and wildlife. This is what responsible mining looks like.
For our members: projects like KSM represent real opportunity for local businesses and contractors across the Northwest. The Chamber will keep working to connect our region to the resources, partnerships, and procurement opportunities as this project moves forward — including through Minerals North 2027.

Community puts forward 87 businesses for the 2026 Business Excellence Awards (September 11, 2026)
B.C. Moves to Permanent Daylight Saving Time: A Win for Businesses Across the Province
The Government of British Columbia announced today that the province will permanently adopt daylight saving time. After clocks spring forward on March 8, 2026, they will not be turned back, ending twice-yearly time changes for good and transitioning B.C. to a single, stable time zone year-round.
Update — PST expansion paused
On September 18, 2026 the Province paused the planned October 1, 2026 expansion of PST to accounting and bookkeeping, architectural, engineering and geoscience, non-residential real estate, and security services. The exemption stays in place through a temporary regulation. The Province advises: ‘If you registered for a PST account, you should cancel it using eTaxBC or by calling 1-877-388-4440.’
BC Chamber of Commerce Statement on Budget 2026
Jen Riley, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement in response to the release of Budget 2026 by the Government of British Columbia.
